1. Introduction

Welcome to Composition Studio.

These Terms of Service govern your use of our website and the purchase of products and services offered by Composition Studio.

Throughout these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Composition Studio. By accessing our website, browsing our collections or purchasing from us, you agree to these terms.

Composition Studio is an Australian design studio and retailer specialising in vintage and antique furniture, collectible objects, contemporary design and considered pieces for the home.

We reserve the right to update these terms from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page.

2. Our Collection

Composition Studio offers a carefully curated collection of vintage, antique, contemporary and independently produced pieces sourced from Australia and abroad.

Many of our objects have lived previous lives. Signs of age, patina, variations in colour, minor imperfections and evidence of previous use are often intrinsic to their character and appeal.

We endeavour to describe and photograph each item as accurately as possible, including any significant wear, restoration or known imperfections.

Please consider the following when purchasing:

  • Vintage and antique pieces may exhibit age-related wear consistent with their history.

  • Natural variations in materials, finishes and colour are to be expected.

  • Dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly.

  • Colours may appear differently depending on lighting, photography and screen settings.

  • Historical dates, provenance and designer attributions are based on our research and the information available to us at the time of listing.

We encourage customers to contact us for additional photographs, measurements or condition information before purchasing.

Nothing in this section excludes your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

3. Pricing and Availability

All prices displayed on our website are in Australian Dollars (AUD), unless otherwise stated.

Prices include GST where applicable. Delivery, freight, installation and any additional services are calculated separately unless expressly included.

As many of our pieces are unique or available in limited quantities, availability cannot always be guaranteed.

We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing or listing errors and to decline or cancel an order where an item is unavailable or an obvious error has occurred. Where payment has already been received for an order we cannot fulfil, a full refund will be provided.

An order is considered accepted once we issue confirmation of acceptance or dispatch, rather than solely upon submission of payment.

4. Orders and Payment

Full payment is generally required before an item is released, dispatched or collected, unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed in writing.

Orders may be placed through our website or directly with our team.

For bespoke, commissioned, made-to-order or specially sourced pieces, additional terms, payment schedules and lead times may apply. These will be communicated before the order is confirmed.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate contact, billing and delivery information.

5. Shipping, Freight and Delivery

Composition Studio offers delivery and freight arrangements within Australia and, where available, internationally.

Due to the varied nature, size and fragility of our collection, shipping requirements and costs differ between items.

For larger furniture, fragile antiques and oversized objects, delivery may require a specialist furniture removalist or freight provider.

Please note:

  • Delivery costs are calculated according to the item's size, weight, destination and handling requirements.

  • Estimated delivery dates are indicative and may be affected by freight schedules, customs processes and circumstances outside our reasonable control.

  • Customers must disclose any relevant access restrictions, including stairs, narrow doorways, lifts or difficult delivery conditions, before dispatch.

  • Additional charges may apply for unsuccessful delivery attempts or services beyond the originally agreed delivery scope, where these charges have been disclosed and agreed.

  • International customers are responsible for applicable import duties, customs charges and local taxes unless otherwise agreed.

We take care in preparing our pieces for transport and selecting appropriate delivery methods.

Any damage occurring during delivery should be reported to Composition Studio as soon as reasonably possible, preferably with photographs of the item and its packaging, so we can assist with resolving the matter.

Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

6. Collection and Storage

Items purchased for collection must be collected within the timeframe agreed at the time of purchase.

We understand that arranging transport for furniture and larger objects can take time and are happy to discuss reasonable collection arrangements.

Where extended storage is requested, additional storage fees may apply if agreed in advance.

Composition Studio will take reasonable care of items awaiting collection.

7. Returns, Exchanges and Refunds

We ask that purchases, particularly vintage and antique pieces, be considered carefully.

As many of our items are unique, we do not offer returns, exchanges or refunds for change of mind, incorrect selection or where an item is no longer suitable for a customer's intended space.

This policy also applies to sale and discounted items.

However, all purchases remain subject to the guarantees and protections provided under Australian Consumer Law.

Where an item does not meet an applicable consumer guarantee, customers may be entitled to a repair, replacement, refund or other remedy as required by law.

If you believe there is an issue with your purchase, please contact our team with your order details and a description of the concern.

We will assess the matter fairly and in accordance with our legal obligations.

8. Vintage and Antique Condition

The character of vintage and antique furniture lies partly in its history.

Surface wear, patina, minor marks, previous repairs and natural ageing may form part of an item's condition and are not necessarily considered faults.

Where an imperfection or characteristic has been clearly disclosed before purchase, it will be considered in assessing the item's condition and suitability.

We recommend that customers make enquiries about condition, functionality and intended use before purchasing, particularly for antique lighting, upholstered furniture and other older functional objects.

Electrical items should be installed or assessed by an appropriately qualified professional where required.

All products remain subject to applicable consumer guarantees and product safety requirements.

9. Bespoke and Special Orders

Composition Studio may offer commissioned pieces, custom orders, upholstery, special sourcing and other individually arranged services.

The scope, pricing, specifications and estimated delivery timeframe for these orders will be agreed separately.

Once production or sourcing has commenced, changes or cancellations may not be possible, or may involve reasonable costs already incurred, subject always to applicable consumer rights.

Any variations to the agreed specifications must be confirmed in writing.

10. Design and Sourcing Services

Composition Studio may provide interior design, styling, sourcing, consultation and creative direction services.

These services are subject to individual proposals, scopes of work, fee arrangements and project agreements.

Where a separate written agreement is provided, that agreement will govern the relevant services to the extent of any inconsistency with these website terms.

11. Intellectual Property

All original content on this website, including photography, written material, graphics, branding, design concepts and creative assets, is owned by Composition Studio or used with permission from the relevant rights holders.

Content may not be reproduced, distributed, modified or used commercially without prior written consent, except as permitted by law.

We welcome the sharing of our work through appropriate social media channels with clear credit to Composition Studio.

12. Website Information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure the information presented on our website is accurate and current.

Occasionally, product descriptions, prices, availability or other information may contain errors or require updating.

We may correct such information and update our website as necessary.

We do not guarantee that the website will operate without interruption or technical issues.

13. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms of Service excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, statutory right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under Australian law.

To the extent permitted by law, Composition Studio is not responsible for losses arising from misuse of products, unauthorised alterations, inappropriate installation or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Any limitations of liability apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

14. Privacy

We respect the privacy of our customers.

Personal information provided through our website, including contact details, order information and delivery addresses, is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Australian privacy laws.

Payment information is processed through our authorised payment service providers.

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

Any disputes arising in connection with these terms will be subject to applicable Australian law and the jurisdiction of the relevant courts, without limiting any rights customers may have under mandatory consumer protection laws.
