Stamped C.F France. This drawing is a careful academic study of a classical male statue, rendered in graphite or charcoal. The figure stands in a contrapposto position, with the weight shifted onto one leg, giving a naturalistic S-curve to the torso. The pose and proportions are characteristic of Greek classical sculpture, emphasizing idealized anatomy, balanced stance, and calm introspection.

The artist has focused on the modeling of the major forms—broad planes of the chest, subtle turning of the ribcage, and the powerful but proportionate musculature of the arms and legs. The shading is soft and gradual, creating a smooth marble-like finish. Stronger shadows on the right side of the figure (viewer’s right) highlight the sculptural three-dimensionality, while lighter tones on the left follow the implied direction of the light source.
